Excellent coffee is not a universal crop. It only grows in certain areas in a band around the equator, between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
This is referred to as the Coffee Belt, and in this band, some parts are famous for their fine beans: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe and Sidama The Ethiopian southern highlands are home to some of the most unique and diverse coffees in the world. Yirgacheffe is well known for its lemony floral citrus forward naturals and washed coffees.
The coffees from Sidama are bolder, with body and hints of chocolate and stone fruit. Colombia Huila and Nario High-altitude growing areas located in the south most Especially Huila and Nario are characterized by their coffee having great clarity, high acidity, and sweet fruit flavors.
All of these factors are made possible by the combination of altitude, rainfall, and rich volcanic soils. Guatemala Antigua and Huehuetenango The coffees from Antigua, Guatemala are smoky, chocolatey and well balanced thanks to the volcanic soils.
The eye wateringly high grown coffees from somewhere like Huehuetenango tend to be much livelier and more complex. Kenya Nyeri and Kirinyaga Kenyan coffee is some of the most unique in the world, with a bright acidity that resembles that of wine, and a full body.
The SL28 and SL34 cultivars that are grown around Mount Kenya are unlike anything else. Yemen- Haraz and Haymah Yemen is the historic home of coffee cultivation and export, using traditional terraced mountain slopes and indigenous techniques.
Yemen's old varietals of coffee, grown wild and in complex wine-like flavors, are becoming increasingly rare. Panama Boquete Boquete is the location in Panama that grows the most costly coffee in the world Geisha, a strain that originates from Ethiopia but is found to flourish in Panama's chilly, air- misty highlands.
