Brewed With Purpose: Coffee That Builds Futures
Every bag you brew helps build a future in Bogor.
The story behind this page
There's a house in Bogor, West Java, where nobody calls it a school — they call it rumah pembinaan, a house of growth. Since 2002, two women with very different backgrounds — Gesine, who left Germany decades ago and never stopped showing up, and Putu, who grew up in Bogor watching kids her age drift through the day with nowhere to go — built something neither of them could have built alone. They called it Yayasan Cipta Mandiri, YCM for short. Locally, it has a nickname that says everything: Changes Our Lives.
Today, close to 100 young people between the ages of 10 and 22 walk through that building every week. Not to sit through lectures, but to find something a lot of kids in their situation are never handed: a room where someone believes in them, a skill they can actually use, and a place to be loud, be curious, be young.
There's no rigid curriculum at YCM. Tutors build lessons around who the students actually are — English, sewing, computers, small business skills — and the young people run real, working micro-enterprises through the foundation as they grow, learning early that their effort has value. Two decades in, alumni are running households, holding down good jobs, some working abroad.
None of it is funded by government money. It runs entirely on people who decided to care. That's where we come in.
Why coffee?
Because your morning ritual already exists. We just think it should mean something bigger than caffeine.
When you buy from this collection, part of your purchase goes directly to YCM — funding the tutors, the classroom supplies, the sewing machines, the small tools that turn a "house of growth" into exactly that.
You get coffee we're genuinely proud of. A kid in Bogor gets a shot at a future that doesn't depend on luck. Same cup, bigger reason to drink it.
